ITIL exponents, citing ITIL's stated intention to be non-prescriptive, are expecting that organizations will have to engage ITIL processes with their existing overall process model. ITIL has been criticized on several fronts. Primarily, the alternatives provide a focus on compliance and measurement and therefore are more aligned with corporate governance than with IT service management per se. Service Level Management provides for continual identification, monitoring and review of the levels of IT services specified in the Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
